This term the Engineering Society will be traveling to JCB’s factory in Rocester. In every corner of the world you'll find a JCB machine: JCB is one of the world's top three manufacturers of construction equipment and employ around 12000 people around the globe. They are a company heavily invested in progressing research and development, keeping them at the forefront of innovation.

BMW/Mini Site Visit

This term the Engineering Society will be travelling to BMW Mini’s visitor center in Oxford: this manufacturing plant is the central assembly facility for the Mini range of cars. Mini has been part of the BMW Group since 2000, and has been one of the pioneers of new technologies that have shaped change both the automotive industry and the world of mobility.

Evolution

Technology has been growing exponentially over the past few decades and are shaping the future of our societies. This conference will explore the relationship between humans and their creations: How will the future be changed in a world of advanced prosthetics and advanced AI? Are we heading to a futuristic utopia or a bleak dystopia?

Prodrive Site Visit

Prodrive Site Visit

In term 2 the Engineering Society will be hosting a site visit to Prodrive’s factory in Banbury. Prodrive specializes in manufacturing and mechanical engineering and are at the forefront of technological, material and automotive innovation. As one of the major global motorsport players, they run programmes for Aston Martin in the FIA World Endurance Championship and global sports car series and for MINI in the World Rally Championship, as well as a new programme for VW in the Chinese Rally Championship. Today more than 200 Aston Martin race, MINI and VW rally cars are competing globally – all supported by Prodrive.

The pursuit of global environmental sustainability is fast becoming a major issue in the world. Environmental sustainability, the avoidance of the depletion of natural resources in order to maintain an ecological balance, has become a hotly debated topic.

Join us for a brand new conference, where we will be joined by experts across the globe to answer some of these questions:

"Is the 'Western Lifestyle' unethical?"

"What is the real impact of household recycling?"

"Can decentralised power generation work at a large scale?"

"Is nuclear energy sustainable?"

"Are electric vehicles truly 'clean'?"

"Is it too late for human civilisation to achieve environmental sustainability?"

The Graduate Engineer Show 2018 is a national conference hosting some of the largest engineering companies and emerging talents in the industry. The event, running for the sixth consecutive year, is held at the iconic Derby Roundhouse and is and it is one of the key events for graduates, undergraduates and employers to network at.

The inaugural Engineering Society Bar Crawl is THE place to be, whether you’re studying engineering or just want to find out about our superior transferrable skills!

We'll be touring around the finest establishments on campus so you can find the best place to get a purple, drink with your friends and get lit at uni before everyone else!

We'll be starting at Varsity at 7:30 on 25/09/18 and ending at the SU event so make sure you get your tickets for the Tuesday!!
